First COVID-19 case confirmed at Valdosta State Prison

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) — A staff member at the Valdosta State Prison has tested positive for coronavirus, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.

According to GDC's records, an employee at the facility "self-reported" testing positive for COVID-19.

This is the first reported case of the coronavirus at the prison. No inmates at the prison have tested positive for the virus according to their latest records.

ABC 27 has reached out to GDC for more information about the employee's position and what steps they'll be taking going forward. We're waiting to hear back.
