First cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Berrien, Cook counties as South Georgia cases grow

(WTXL) — The Georgia Department of Public Health, South Health District has confirmed six new cases of COVID-19.

Health officials say four individuals are residents of Tift County, one individual is a resident of Berrien County, and one individual is a resident of Cook County.

These are the first confirmed cases in Berrien and Cook Counties. Investigations surrounding these cases are ongoing.

At this time, South Health District has 50 confirmed cases of COVID-19 throughout the district which includes ten counties throughout South Georgia (Ben Hill, Berrien, Brooks, Cook, Echols. Irwin, Lanier, Lowndes, Tift and Turner).

Baker - 1 case, 1 death
Berrien - 1 case
Brooks - 1 case
Clinch - 1 case
Colquitt - 6 cases
Decatur - 5 cases
Echols - 0 cases
Grady - 0 cases
Lanier - 0 cases
Lowndes - 20 cases, 1 death
Miller - 4 cases
Mitchell - 15 cases
Seminole - 3 cases
Thomas - 7 cases
Tift- 19 cases
Cook- 1 case
