First Alert Weather Day declared for Friday
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) —

The WTXL First Alert Weather Team has declared Friday a First Alert Weather Day.

Severe storms are expected to move-in and develop in the morning hours Friday and sweep through North Florida and South Georgia into the early afternoon.

Friday will likely be active, with strong to severe storms occurring before or during sunrise. Timing for the arrival of the line may be as early as 4:00am or as late as 8:00am.

An intense squall line is expected to drive through the region, bringing heavy downpours, frequent lightning and strong wind gusts with it. According to the National Weather Service and the Storm Prediction Center, the severe threats are from damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes embedded within the squall line. In the strongest storms, wind gusts may exceed 60 or 70 mph.

Once the severe weather threat passes Friday afternoon, expect temperatures in the 70s all day. As the powerful front drives east of the Big Bend and South Georgia, temperatures will cool off and weather will turn fair through the weekend. Expect lows in the 40s both days with highs in the lower 70s on Saturday and near 80 degrees on Easter Sunday.

Search "Storm Shield" in the App Store or Google Play. Be extra aware of the weather as the morning commute may be heavily impacted by this severe threat.
