Fired employee charged with grand theft after stealing trucks from Tallahassee business

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — An 18-year-old has been arrested after deputies say he was caught on camera stealing two company trucks from his former job.

Court documents say Leon County deputies responded to 2012 McKee Road in regards to a burglary that occurred on Wednesday. When deputies arrived on the scene, they began speaking with an employee who said he received a call saying two of the work trucks were missing.

While on scene, deputies say they noticed that the fence surrounding the complex had been cut open. Documents say both of the trucks were marked with the logo and had approximately $25,000 worth of equipment on them.

Deputies were able to get get access to the company's surveillance video and saw footage of two suspects breaking into the business and stealing the vehicles. Through the video, the employee was able to identify one of the suspects as 18-year-old Dolan Barrentine, who was a former employee of the business before being fired.

After looking at the security footage, deputies left the scene and began searching for Barrentine. During the search, deputies noticed one of the stolen trucks driving on Bog Hole Road.

Deputies then ran the tag to confirm it was one the vehicles they were searching for and conducted a traffic stop, quickly identifying Barrentine as the driver.

When deputies searched the truck, they found a mason jar with marijuana inside. While speaking to deputies, documents sat Barrentine admitted to stealing the truck from the business, but wouldn't say anything else.

Barrentine was immediately arrested and transported to the Leon County Detention Center on Monday. He is facing a series of charges including grand theft over $20,000, two counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle and burglary.

He is being held inn jail on a $6,100 bond.
