GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — A 27-year-old woman is dead after she traveled off the road on I-10 eastbound and hit a tree, throwing her out of the car.

The Florida Highway Patrol said it happened just before midnight on Wednesday on I-10 EB near Flat Creek Road.

They say the 27-year-old Altha woman was traveling east in the outside eastbound travel lane of I-10EB when, for unknown reasons, the car traveled outside the eastbound travel lane and onto the south shoulder.

The front of vehicle then hit a tree, causing the vehicle to overturn several times.

FHP says the driver was thrown from the car and pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver has not been identified by troopers.

The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted by Gadsden County Sheriff's Department, Gadsden County EMS, Chattahoochee Fire Department and Gretna Police Department.
