JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Troopers say a 54-year-old pickup truck driver was killed on Sunday evening during a crash in Jackson County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 5:40 p.m. on Sunday on U.S. Highway 90 and Mayo Road.

FHP says a pickup truck was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 90 and Mayo Road.

According to witnesses, the truck failed to notice traffic coming to a stop on U.S. Highway 90.

The driver swerved to avoid crashing into the rear of the stopped traffic.

The driver then traveled into a ditch on U.S. Highway 90.

Troopers say during this time the truck hit an embankment, which caused it to become airborne.

The truck also collided with the ground which led it to overturn before coming to a final rest on its roof.

FHP says the driver was not properly restrained at the time of the crash and was ejected from the truck.

As a result of the crash, the driver was pronounced deceased on scene.

Authorities have identified the driver as a 54-year-old man from Marianna.
