MARION COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — The Florida Highway Patrol says one person is dead and another seriously injured after a crash on NW 95th Avenue Road in Marion County.

A 19-year-old male was traveling southbound in a sedan on NW 95th Avenue Road at a high rate of speed, negotiating a left curve as an SUV was traveling northbound on NW 95th Avenue Road, approaching the curve, according to the report.

FHP says the driver of the sedan failed to maintain his lane of travel, drifting partially onto the west grass shoulder. He overcorrected, resulting in his vehicle veering onto the roadway, beginning to rotate, and partially crossing the centerline.

The sedan struck the left side of the SUV, causing the UV to rotate counter-clockwise, coming to final rest on the east grass shoulder, facing northwest, as stated in the report.

The report says the sedan continued traveling in a southeasterly direction, continuing to rotate counterclockwise as it veered onto the east grass shoulder, striking a standing tree.

FHP said the force of the collision sheared the sedan into two pieces, ejecting the 19-year-old male driver.

The front half of the sedan came to final rest just south of the standing tree, along with the driver.

The back half of the sedan came to final rest on its roof, facing southeast.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased on scene by Paramedic Heath Stewart at 4:44 p.m., according to the report.

FHP said the driver of the SUV and its passenger were transported to Shands Hospital. The driver of the SUV is reported to have serious injuries and the passenger's injuries are reported as minor.
