MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) — A 26-year-old Gretna man is dead after troopers say he lost control of his car on East Brickyard Road in Midway and crashed into a tree.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened Tuesday morning around 4:30 a.m.

They say the driver, who was driving a Ford Ranger, was traveling eastbound on East Brickyard Road just west of Jackson Court in Gadsden County when the crash happened.

At some point, the driver's car traveled out of the eastbound lane of East Brickyard Road and onto the south grass shoulder. Troopers said the driver then overcorrected his steering and lost control of the vehicle as it began rotating counterclockwise across East Brickyard Road.

Eventually, the car went into a ditch and hit a tree within the tree line.

While troopers said that it was raining lightly at the time of the crash, they don't believe the road's condition contributed to the crash.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS. FHP reports that he did not have on a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
