Tallahassee woman killed after being hit by three cars on North Monroe Street

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A Tallahassee woman was killed while trying to cross North Monroe Street Thursday morning.

Deonna Gooden, 35, was killed in the accident.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened at about 6:45 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of North Monroe Street and Swatts Road.

FHP says a Ford Explorer was traveling south on North Monroe Street in the inside lane. Gooden was crossing North Monroe Street when the Ford Explorer hit Gooden. The Explorer then came to a controlled stop.

A Chevy Silverado was also traveling southbound on North Monroe Street approaching Gooden. According to the driver of the Silverado, several vehicles hit Gooden ahead of him.

Another Chevy Silverado also hit Gooden on North Monroe Street. Both of the Silverados returned to the scene after they hit Gooden.

Gooden died from her injuries sustained in the accident.

The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County EMS, and Tallahassee Fire Department.


The Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on North Monroe Street and Swatts Road.

According to FHP, the accident occurred Thursday around 6:59 a.m.

The accident caused road blockage on North Monroe Street and Swatts Road.

Authorities say all southbound lanes of North Monroe were closed in the area of Fred George Road as a result of the crash.

Troopers also confirmed that three vehicles were involved in the crash.

At this time, FHP has not released of the identity of the pedestrian.
