GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Troopers say one person is dead after a crash on Hardaway Highway in Gadsden County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 7:36 p.m. Sunday on Hardaway Highway just east of Woodrow Butler Road.
They say Stefan Dwayne Lewis, 29, of Chattahoochee died on scene from injuries sustained in the accident.
Troopers say Walter Rogers,58, of Chattahoochee was driving east on Hardaway Highway while Lewis was driving west on same road on a motorcycle.
Without noticing that Lewis was headed his direction, Rogers made a left turn into his driveway. Lewis then tried to stop himself from crashing into Rogers by quickly breaking.
Troopers say Lewis' motorcycle ended up spinning out of control before colliding with Rogers' Toyota Tundra. Lewis was knocked off the motorcycle during the crash, before it finally landed on the side of the road.
After the impact, Rogers' truck ended up spinning around and landing partially in the road on its left side.
The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office, Gadsden County EMS, the Chattahoochee Fire Department, the Sycamore Volunteer Fire Department and the Greensboro Fire Department.
Documents say during the incident, Rogers wasn't wearing a seat belt and FHP is investigating whether alcohol played a role in the crash.
At this time authorities say charges for the driver are pending.
