1 dead, 1 injured after crash sends deer crashing through windshield

JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — An elderly woman is dead and another has been taken to the hospital in serious condition after a crash on S.R. 77 in Jackson County.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash happened in Graceville around 6:30 a.m. on Monday .

They say a 2018 Dodge Ram was going south on S.R. 77 when a deer suddenly crossed the road, causing the driver to crash into it.

The deer then went airbourne into the northbound lane and went through the windshield of a 2010 Ford Escape that was going the opposite way. FHP says the deer hit both the driver and passenger it's body came out of the rear window.

The passenger of the Ford Escape, 81-year-old Edna Griffin of Chipley, was killed in the accident. The driver was taken to Southeast Alabama Medical in serious condition.

The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were not injured in the crash. No charges are being filed.
