TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida A&M University is calling on alumni, parents, faculty, staff and other supporters to participate in the University’s inaugural Day of Givingbeginning at 9 a.m. on Thursday.
During the 1,887-minute giving campaign, the Rattler community is being asked to support hardworking FAMU students who have had their spring semester disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This is a very timely opportunity for us to show our commitment to the success of our students,” said President Larry Robinson, Ph.D. “We are asking our friends and supporters to give until you go numb. This is the kind of investment that pays dividends.”
During, FAMU and the National Alumni Association (NAA) are coming together to raise funds for FAMU Cares, the NAA’s Save Our Students (SOS) Campaign, the Rattler Athletic Fund and FAMU’s more than one dozen colleges and schools.
Gifts to FAMU Cares allows the University to provide students with relief in the areas of housing, food insecurity, instructional technology, equipment and other unforeseeable challenges as a result of the current global health crisis.
“There are so many ways to get involved in #1887Strikes this year, and regardless of how you choose to participate, please know your contributions will make a massive impact in the lives of countless Rattlers,” said Shawnta Friday-Stroud, Ph.D., vice president of University Advancement, who is leading the fundraising campaign. “Amazing things happen when the FAMU community comes together.”
The NAA SOS was established to provide retention scholarships for graduating students in need of financial support to make it across the finish line.
The Rattler Athletic Fund helps pay for scholarships, academic services, facilities, operational support and championship caliber coaches. Donors can also give directly to their preferred FAMU college or school.
“We are excited to see what can happen when the FAMU community joins together to support our students,” said Friday-Stroud, who is also dean of the School of Business and Industry.
