GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Learning is about to get hands-on at Florida A&M's Veterinary Technology Complex.
Florida A&M University unveiled a 4,000 square foot expansion Tuesday at its Gadsden County location. The extra space gives faculty room to teach hands-on skills with live animals.
There's an anatomy floor with space for 30 students, an expanded prep room, and an expanded surgery room. Cats and dogs can also be housed at the expanded facility for short periods of time.
Construction on the new expansion was finished last summer and the anatomy floor has actually been in use all year.
"They have an opportunity right here to get hands on experience dealing with animals," said Dr. Larry Robinson, President of FAMU. "Being apart of our campus, being able to do that means we can control the quality of the program, the quality of the experience and then they are bought into the overall experience at FAMU."
Cats and dogs can also be housed at the expanded facility for short periods of time.
