Tallahassee leaders say sometimes stress plays a major factor for the violence that occurs and it can stem from mental health problems, poverty, and other outside factors.

City Commissioner, Dianne Williams-Cox wants people to understand that violence is not the answer and we, as women, need to set examples for others.

"This is an opportunity for the women of our community to come together and talk about the things that are happening in our community, and to encourage our young women, our young ladies, to continue to strive to be the young lady that we were called to be. And to help our community as we work through this senseless violence that's occurring in our community. Being able to do the things that we need to do, that we can do to help eradicate this violence," said Commissioner Williams-Cox.

Thursday's event is part of ongoing efforts to lower the overall crime rate after Leon County has lead the state, four years in a row.
