TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The Ernie Sims' Big HITS Foundation is making sure to recognize the hard work teachers have put in this year.

Volunteers from the foundation made their way to Pineview Elementary to treat teachers as a token of their appreciation.

Event chair Jashett Omeally said they cherish teachers' efforts to not only educate children but also to keep them safe. She hopes their gifts will add a bit of positivity to their holidays.

"You hear a lot of people talking about the struggles of the COVID pandemic and how it has affected the teachers and the negatives and all of the accommodations they are having to make to take care of our kids," said Omeally. "So as a board we decided to show the teachers that we do consider them first-line workers and we wanted to show them that we appreciate all the work that they did."

Each of the 30 teachers at the school received a personalized letter, a $25 gift card, plus additional hand sanitizers, and wipes for their classrooms.
