TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The Tallahassee International Airport and the Federal Aviation Administration are trying to repair a piece of equipment damaged earlier this week after a man crashed into it with a stolen FedEx truck.

On Monday, 23-year-old Aaron Lenninghan climbed over a fence at the airport, stole a FedEx truck and crashed it into "localizer," which plays a role in the airport's landing system.

Lenninghan was arrested but the damage left behind persisted, affecting about 20 flights this week.

"We've got crews out there working right now," said David Pollard, the Director of the City of Tallahassee's Aviation Department. "We hope to work and get it up as quickly as we can. We understand it's an inconvenience for our travelers. Until the FAA certifies that piece of equipment, we will continue to have some flight delays."

Pollard says they're doing a security assessment of the area so this type of thing doesn't happen again.
