TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A portion of South Monroe Street will be closed to traffic in the coming weekends due to a sewer pipe replacement project.

The City of Tallahassee announced Friday that there are road closures planned along South Monroe Street to replace roughly 500 feet of sewer pipe under the road.

South Monroe Street between east and west Polk Drive will be closed to traffic during the weekends of Oct. 3 and 10 from 8 p.m. on Friday to 6 a.m. on Monday.

During these closures, the city says traffic will be rerouted via South Adams Street, Orange Avenue and Magnolia Drive. Detours will be clearly marked.

“Access to businesses within the work zone will be maintained at all times, and additional signage will be incorporated to provide clear direction to motorists as to the most convenient way to access those businesses,” the city wrote in a release.

They say the construction on this project comes ahead of the Florida Department of Transportation's South Monroe Street Resurfacing Project, which is slated for early 2021.
