JEFFERSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Jefferson County deputies are warning residents about the importance of vehicle safety due to a recent increase in vehicle burglaries and thefts.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, there has recently been an increased amount of vehicle burglaries and thefts in the County.

Deputies say while it does not appear to be any specific areas targeted, there are usually multiple vehicles hit in the area at the same time frame.

Authorities are urging residents to please lock vehicles and remove any valuables.

They say majority of these thefts have occurred to unlocked vehicles.

Deputies are also asking residents to make sure their home outside lights are working.

If you have security cameras, make sure they are operational and report any suspicious activity, vehicles or persons immediately.

JCSO says they have increased patrols as much as possible and are working with adjoining counties as they also are experiencing an influx of thefts.
