MADISON COUNTY, Fla. — The Madison County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a scam targeting local businesses.
MCSO said they have been made aware of a likely scam attempt targeting Madison County businesses. They stated invoices are being received from a sender identifying themselves as “Sports Media” with an Austin, Texas mailing address.
According to MCSO, the invoice will be titled Madison County High School 2019 Fall Sports Poster, but the company is not affiliated with Madison County Schools in any way.
MCSO said the small print on the bottom of the invoice states “Company is not affiliated with any school”. The phone number on the invoice (888-441-9584) is associated with numerous addresses in multiple states and calls to the number will result in a message stating the mailbox is full.
The Better Business Bureau has an alert associated with the business and rates them “F” based on multiple complaints received dating back to 2017.
MCSO states if you receive an invoice from this "company," do not send any type of payment or respond in any way. They said if you have sent money, take steps to stop the payment immediately.
According to MCSO, unless you have actually responded to the invoice there is no need to report receiving it. Simply discard it.
