PERRY, Fla. (WTXL) — The Taylor County Sheriff's office is holding a benefit auction for an 11-year-old boy who suffered burns on 70 percent on body after catching on fire last month.

Aiden Rice, 11, was hospitalized with burns on more than 70 percent of his body in March. According to a GoFundMe account raising funds for healthcare costs, the young boy was standing too close to a campfire and caught on fire.

Aiden was rushed to an emergency room and later transferred to Shands Hospital in Gainesville. After a surgery to relieve the swelling in his arms and torso, the child was taken off the ventilator and transferred to Shriners Hospital for Children in Texas.

The recovery process has been a long one for Aiden, family members report, and he still has a long ways to go.

To aid in that process, Taylor County deputies are holding a benefit auction for the young boy.

"Anyone that can donate items for the auction such as furniture, electronics, books, cakes, fishing charters, gift cards, etc, please contact Kristy Anderson at (850) 843-4834," deputies wrote.

The auction will take place on Saturday, May 18 at 6 p.m. at Forest Capital Hall.
