TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A man who was on the run after a victim was found dead inside a car in Tallahassee back in November has been arrested in Las Vegas.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office says that on Friday, November 23, 2018, deputies on patrol in the area behind the Woodville Ball Park found a car with 38-year-old Dewayne Nelson dead inside.

As a result of an investigation, detectives connected 38-year-old Damon Gilbert to the homicide.

On Wednesday, Gilbert approached a police officer in Las Vegas, Nevada and told the officer that he was wanted for murder. The officer took Gilbert into custody.

He is currently in the Clark County Detention Center, awaiting extradition. Gilbert has been charged with first degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, shooting at, within or into an occupied vehicle, and carrying a concealed firearm.
