SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities are investigating after Suwannee Middle School students found graffiti in a bathroom hinting at a school shooting on Friday.

The Suwannee County Sheriff's Office said on Thursday during 5th period, a couple of students notified their teacher that there was graffiti found in the 8th grade boys bathroom at Suwannee Middle School that made reference to a school shooting taking place on Friday.

A SMS school resource deputy along with the SMS administration have reviewed the camera footage and have interviewed all known potential suspects.

SCSO says they all have denied any knowledge of who is responsible for writing it.

Deputies said that they are also aware that a photograph of the graffiti was circulated on at least one school bus Thursday afternoon and they are currently investigating those leads as well.

SCSO says the safety and security of the students and staff at all of their schools is their top priority and acts like this undermine the feeling of safety children deserve to have. They stated please know that every measure is being taken to ensure children’s safety.

Any written threat to commit an act of violence is a felony and once SCSO determines who wrote this graffiti, they said they will pursue all applicable charges against them.

Sheriff Sam St. John and SCSO stated they are committed to providing the community with as much information as they can without compromising an ongoing investigation and will provide further updates when it’s appropriate.
