TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — A coalition of state Democrats is calling on the governor to halt a massive corporate tax refund as the state economy reels from the coronavirus pandemic.
The group sent a letter to DeSantis this week saying now is not the time to hand back the more than a half-billion in state dollars.
Sen. José Rodríguez is leading the charge, saying those dollars could be better spent going to those in need.
Instead, Florida's top one percent of corporations will be getting checks, he says.
Representative Anna Eskamani urged DeSantis to redirect the funds away from large corporations with an executive order.
