LAKE CITY, Fla. (WTXL) — All northbound and southbound lanes of I-75 and the westbound lanes of I-10 are closed at the I-75/I-10 interchange in Columbia County due to a crash involving a Midway truck driver.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that a Midway truck driver was driving his semi west on I-10 on Monday around 2 p.m. when an unknown vehicle cut him off.
To avoid hitting the vehicle, troopers say the driver swerved, causing a piece of machinery on the truck to fall off. The large piece of machinery then rolled off I-10, causing major damage to the road and overpass.
Thankfully, the truck driver was uninjured in the crash.
As a result of the crash, I-10 westbound and both northbound and southbound I-75 are currently closed at the I-75/I-10 interchange in Columbia County (mile marker 296B) due to a crash. I-10 WB is closed at U.S. 41 to detour traffic, I-75 NB is closed at U.S. 90 and I-75 SB is closed at State Road 136.
Due to the damage to the road and overpass, the following detours are in place:
- To continue northbound on I-75, motorists will be required to go east on I-10 to US 41, go north on US 41 to County road 136, go west on CR 136 to I-75.
- To continue westbound travel on I-10, motorists will be required to exit onto to I-75 NB
- For southbound travel on I-75, travelers will exit off at the US 129 exit and follow the local detour signs for I-10
The Suwannee County Sheriff's office is warning residennts that some of the traffic is being detoured through the county in the areas of CR136/I-75, CR136/CR137, CR 137/I-10, CR137/US 90. Traffic in these areas are likely to be heavy at times. FHP, DOT, and the SCSO are monitoring those intersections and are assisting with traffic control.
Troopers say travel advisories will be updated as needed.
