TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — On Friday, the community will gather to remember Tallahassee legend Darryl Steele.

Steele died early Sunday morning at the age of 63.

He played the guitar and sang vocals for the band Crooked Shoez.

He impacted many people with his music and his work for the NAACP.

His friend Mark Blair said the news devastated him.

"All day I sat around empty, non-responsive. He was a band mate of mine but more than that, Darryl Steele was my friend," said Blair.

A memorial is scheduled for Jan. 10 at The Junction at Monroe.
