LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Leon County leaders and the community are working together to decide the future of Chaires Park and what they'd like to see there.
Many neighbors said this park needs a baseball field for children in the community to be able to use. and that's what they're hoping a Leon County project makes happen.
This is something county leaders have heard before and they've been working to make it a reality.
The problem is that Leon county set aside 1.2 million dollars for this project and the field will cost more than double that.
Parents are saying they just want a place for their children to play ball in their neighborhood.
"There is no middle school baseball unless you go to a private school. We have parents, both of them employed, working hard, taking their kids from a T-ball field to a little league field to Fred George," said a parent who lives in Chaires community.
Other neighbors saying they would be happy to see park amenities such a trails, shade structures, and community spaces rather than a baseball field.
Leon County commissioners will vote on how to move forward with this project at their June 18 meeting.
They will either approve more money to build a baseball field, or stay within the budget, and bring other amenities to the park.
