COLQUITT COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) — Colquitt Regional Medical Center is taking major safety precautions after seeing an increase in flu patients this season.

In Facebook post, the hospital stated that "with extreme flu virus cases" occurring, they are implementing visitation measures to protect their patients, staff and visitors.

Last week, Colquitt Regional also released the following statement:

Colquitt Regional has seen a consistent increase in confirmed flu cases in the past weeks. While the flu season is already in full swing, Colquitt Regional providers still suggest getting the flu shot for those who haven’t already. It is the best way to safeguard yourself and loved ones from flu and flu-related complications. To help stay vigilant in the fight against the flu, Colquitt Regional is taking preventative measures by temporarily limiting visitors to those who are 18 years or older, reducing the number of visitors allowed to see patients, requiring that all visitors wear masks, and having no visitors in emergency department treatment areas. Proper flu hygiene, such as washing hands frequently and covering sneezes and coughs, is also being promoted campus wide.”

The hospital is continuing to urge everyone to get a flu shot along with enforcing the visitation measures listed below:

-NO children or youth visitors under the age of 18 at this time.
-Limit of 1 visitor at a time and visitor must wear a mask.
-No visitors will be allowed in ER treatment areas unless needed for a clinical reason.
-All are requested to use hand sanitizer prior to entry and exiting patient areas.
