QUINCY, Fla. (WTXL) — Cots, pillows and blankets were all laid out for those who need a warm place to stay in Quincy.

This week the city opened its cold weather shelter at the Ferolito Recreation Center.

Roscoe Newton, who lives in the city, helped make it happen.

He noticed the need and asked the city and churches to partner with him to get a shelter open.

"Mr. Newton brought the idea to me less than 48-hours ago that we do this because of these freezing temperatures," said Quincy Mayor Ronte Harris.

The shelter is only when temperatures are freezing or below.

They provide showers and a hot meal and can hold up to 20 clients.

If anyone needs transportation you can call 850-743-7275 and you have to be within city limits.
