TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Hurricane Dorian is now a Category 1 storm and the City of Tallahassee is confident it is prepared.

The city is in contact with the National Weather Service and is monitoring the storm.

A staffing plan is in place so that city employees can address problems, no matter what time it is.

They are hoping the hurricane prep workshops that they've done over recent months will give residents the upper hand when preparing.

"You can be assured that the City of Tallahassee is prepared, but what we're asking for is that we have our citizens be prepared," said Cynthia Barber, Deputy City Manager. "Take the information that you've learned over the past year through our neighborhood prep workshops as well as the cities build a bucket events assess where you are and you and your family what your needs are. Make sure you get those in place to sustain yourselves and your families while we work to restore your power."

The city will also be giving away sandbags Thursday at 12:00 p.m. for those who need them.
