TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — While learning the importance of self-empowerment, girls in Tallahassee lended a helping hand to beautify the streets on Thursday.
City leaders joined the Oasis Center for Women & Girls -- "Girls Can Do Anything" campers downtown to clean up a graffiti wall with a brand new wok of art.
The city states that uncontrolled graffiti on both public and private infrastructure can have negative effects on a community and is a criminal offense and this is one way they can combat it.
"It's been very fun but very educational, that's what I like about it," said Jurzi Williams, an event participant.
This beautification project is just a precursor to a graffiti prevention pilot program recently approved by the City Commission that will also contribute to beautification projects.
The program is expected to start later this year.
