100 years ago the U.S. government passed the 19th amendment, which finally gave woman the right to vote.
Tuesday night, the Florida Humanity Council honored the lives of women who have made major accomplishments in Florida's history.
The council wanted to acknowledge the contributions such as overcoming discriminatory barriers.
Speakers on Tuesday covered women's advancements in the state of Florida from slavery until now particularly gaining independence, the right to vote, and identity.
"In addition to fighting for the right to vote, women were fighting for full rights of citizenship, for education, for equality within marriage, and fighting to preserve Florida at a time that it was being dredged and paved over, Peggy Macdonald, Historian.
