TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Monday marks the first day people living in Leon County may apply for their portion of $7.5 million of Cares Act Funding.

Those who have lost income due to the pandemic may be eligible for up to $3,000 to assist with rent, mortgage, or utility payments.

While the entire application process is online, Leon County has set up several sites that offer in-person assistance with the process.

Annie Powell visited the location on Railroad Avenue and says the funds can't reach her fast enough.

"It's hard, it's hard, it's hard," said Powell. "The money you get, by the time you pay bills, you ain't got enough money to feed yourself. I've been waiting ever since they say they were going to start. I really didn't know when they were going to start but I thank God they is. Every little bit'll help."

The county has until December 30 to utilize all the funding. They are processing applications on a first-come-first-served basis.

Site leaders say more than 150 people submitted applications within the first 30 minutes of its availability.

The application and a list of assistance locations are available by clicking here.
