TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — It's a job seekers paradise. That's the news following the release of the Capital Region's unemployment numbers.

Right now, our unemployment rate is coming in just under the state average at 2.8 percent. There's no time like the present when it comes to grabbing a job, with jobs in health care topping the list of the most advertised in our region.

It's music to a job seeker's ears.

"We have a lot of job opportunities currently, very flexible schedule, very flexible pay," said Amanda Moneymaker, the branch manager at NurseSpring. "We are always hiring."

NurseSpring in Tallahassee hires licensed medical personnel and they are just one of many local employers looking for to fill positions. The new unemployment numbers for our region are in for April from the Department of Economic Opportunity Statistics and the results are good.

"What it means for our area is that people are getting to work," said Kara Palmer Smith, the senior director of Career Source Capital Region. "What it also means is that it is a career-seekers market and what it means is that people are still looking for talent."

Right now, the Capital Region's unemployment rate for April was point-one percentage point lower than the state's rate which was 2.9 percent. Wakulla County's unemployment rate remained the lowest in the region at 2,6 percent.

And a few of the top advertised openings, jobs in health care are number one followed by supervisors of retail and retail salespeople and customer service reps. All ready for whoever is willing to take on the opportunity.

"It's actually good news. It means that people are working and the jobs that are available," said Smith. "It's a career seekers market and a good time to make a change as well."

Career Source Capital Region is having their 2019 Career Connections Hiring Fair on Thursday, June 13. There will be employers there from the healthcare, government and professional services industries.

The fair is from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Florida State Conference Center on Pensacola Street. For more information, click here.
