TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — This week marks the 20th anniversary of 'International Trans Day of Remembrance" commemorating the long list of trans people who lost their lives simply because of their transition.
Capital Tea transgender support group of Tallahassee, gathered in Cascades Park Wednesday night, to honor and mourn the loss of those individuals.
Volunteers read their names out loud.
That was followed by a moment of silence.
People who were affected by loss, also had a chance to speak and share their grief.
"I get goosebumps a little bit to see the amount of individuals who've we lost already through hate," said Vashai Avionce with Capital Tea Transgender Support Group.
Since 2008, there have been more than 3,000 reported murders in 74 countries around the world.
Since 2018, there were 331 reported murders of transgender people.
