TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The ground has officially been broken on a new emergency room in Tallahassee.

This will someday be the new Lake Jackson ER, right off North Monroe Street. It's right behind the Waffle House.

The Capital Regional Medical Center stand-alone emergency room will span more than 10,000 square feet.

"You look at northwest Tallahassee, it's kind of rural, but there are a lot of house tops and a lot of families that live up here and a lot of businesses that are growing," said Alan Keesee, CEO of Capital Regional Medical Center. "So these folks will be able to access care closer to home without having to drive into the city."

The Lake Jackson ER is expected to open in April of next year.

Capital Regional is also putting an ER in southeast Leon County, near Capital Circle Southeast and Orange Avenue.

That one should open in November of this year.
