(WTXL) — With the chance of a freeze Tuesday night, now is the time to get ready.

Especially when it comes to protecting your plants.

Small plants or plants that are still growing could be impacted the most. The best way to save your plants is to bring them inside for a couple of nights.

If you aren't able to, it's important to cover them with a blanket to keep the cold air out.

Barry Gainous, Vice President of Gainous' Shade Trees, is warning you to take this freeze seriously as the first one of the season is usually the worst.

"It's very important because your plants are still growing," said Gainous. "If the temperatures get below 32 which they possibly could, there could be some major damage to the plants especially their appearance."

The best time to cover those plants is before sunset.

Make sure the cover you put on them is lose enough to help with air circulation.
