CAIRO, Ga. (WTXL) — Many pools will be open for the holiday weekend. Others, will open on June 1.

Unfortunately, for the children in Cairo, the city pool will be closed for at least another month. This after the Holder Park Pool was shut down all of last summer for repairs.

The Holder Park Pool is once again expected to have renovations done to it, which means, the gates will remain locked for a little longer.

Last summer, part of the pool liner was replaced in the shallow end to keep kids from cutting their feet while swimming. The deep end will be getting the same treatment this summer.

The estimated cost of repair is about $85,000.

"It's well in range, give or take," said Booker Gainor, the mayor of Cairo. "Last year, we didn't fully renovate the pool, so we had those funds left over which went into this year's budget to fund the complete project. The money we receive off of it, it just goes back into paying the life guards."

The indoor showers have already seen repairs, and are ready for guests to use them.

If all goes according to plan, the pool should open in mid-July, however the diving board will not be there.

There have been a few discussion about extending the pool hours and season, but as of now, once the pool opens, it’ll operate during the weekend afternoon hours.
