CAIRO, Ga. — Cairo celebrates its residents and downtown businesses with the first ever Sweet Summer Concert.

City leaders have had the idea for a concert for over a year now, mainly to bring people out to downtown and enjoy the company of others.

Although Broad Street is still open right now, it will be closed off from the railroad tracks to Second Avenue starting in about an hour.

This way people can walk freely around downtown, visit food vendors and shops, and even stop by the stage to see the Grapevine Band play.

This may be the first event of its kind in Cairo, but organizers and city leaders are already looking forward to future concerts like this.

"Our hope is that maybe we'll have a series of music events two or three times a year. Really, we've got the learning curve with this event. We'll see how it goes and what the feedback is," said Celeste Tyler, Mainstreet Director for City of Cairo.

Tyler did say that she has received a lot of positive feedback from the community and residents about Friday's Sweet Summer Concert, and the excitement just continues to grow.

Everyone is invited out to the Georgia's Hospitality City on Friday for this Sweet Summer Concert. The fun starts at 7:00 p.m. and lasts until 10:00 p.m.
