BROOKS COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — The Brooks County Fire Department says the Rayonier Chip Mill suffered major damage in a Sunday morning fire.
According to BFD, the fire occurred around 11:55 a.m. on Sunday in the 1900 block of Johnson Short Road.
Once fire units arrived on scene they found smoke coming from multiple locations throughout the chip mill.
Fire crews quickly determined that this fire was burning for an extended period of time before a call was placed into 911 from a resident passing by the scene..
With the help of 26 fire personnel, crews preformed overhaul operations and extinguished any remaining hot spots to ultimately extinguish the fire.
The fire department says the Rayonier Chip Mill received major damage from the fire.
At this time, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
