BROOKS COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) — Multiple agencies are battling a 50-acre in at Bowen Mill Pond in Brooks County and are warning about low visibility on Highway 84.
The Brooks County Fire Department says that a 50-acre fire is currently burning at Bowen Mill Pond in Brooks County.
They say the Georgia Forestry has established fire breaks around the perimeter of the pond and a plane has been sent in to survey the fire from above.
According to the fire department, their main concern right now is low visibility near Highway 84 due to the fire.
Georgia Department of Transportation now has signs out and is monitoring visibility in the area.
The fire department says they, Brooks County Emergency Management, Georgia Forestry, and Georgia DOT will continue to monitor this situation around the clock.
The public is asked to avoid sight-seeing as slowing down to see the fire may cause an accident on the roadways.
