Bill Proctor: Leon County should buy Washington Square

LEON COUNTY, Fla. — A new home for Leon County offices.

Leon County Commissioner Bill Proctor says he found just that, right down the street.

This is what Washington Square on Calhoun Street looks like right now. It's across from the courthouse, in hopes to be the new Loews Hotel.

Proctor says the project has stalled, the workers aren't getting paid and the space could be put to better use.

Proctor wrote a letter to the county suggesting it's a place that the county could use.

"Typically, projects like these are going to crash and burn nose dive. They go into bankruptcy. If that occurs, I think it would be prudent for our county government to look at this site," said Proctor.

We did reach out to the property owners, Fairmont Tallahassee LLC. They said they didn't wish to comment.

The building is not currently for sale.
