TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Travelers this holiday weekend won't have to pay much at the pump.
According to GasBuddy.com, gas prices nationally are the lowest they've been for a Memorial Day Weekend since 2003, about $1.93 per gallon.
The pandemic, along with low demand for gas, allowed prices to fall below $2; however, drivers passing through have noticed a slight increase in prices recently.
"So they are a little higher than what I've been seeing, but not too bad," said Courtney Due. "It's affordable, even more so compared to the past."
According to AAA, a lot of people are expected to stay home and not travel because of the pandemic, and may even set a record low.
It isn't stopping everyone from getting to their destination though.
"I'm a little more relaxed about it," Due said. "I'm careful. I don't touch people that I haven't met, try to stay away from everybody."
Rick and Kim Newell say people should be cautious, practice social distancing, and wash your hands..
"Please make sure you wash your hands," the Newells said. "We always carry a bottle of hand sanitizer with us."
According to AAA, people are already planning future trips.
