BAINBRIDGE, Ga. — A Bainbridge Public Safety Officer has been arrested for trying to influence a jury.

Investigator Chip Nix was booked into the Decatur County Jail Wednesday afternoon.

He's facing charges of violating his oath as a public officer and embracery, which means trying to influence a jury.

On August 29, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations received a request from South Georgia Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Kevin Chason to conduct an investigation into alleged jury tampering during a criminal trial recently held in Decatur County Superior Court.

GBI agents conducted the investigation and interviewed witnesses and jurors related to the trial in question.

The investigative case file was then turned over to District Attorney Joe Mulholland for his review. Arrest warrants were obtained, and Nix turned himself in Wednesday afternoon.

According to BPS, Nix is still currently employed with them.

He has since been released from jail.

This case is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call the GBI Thomasville Office at 229-225-4090.
