Baby rescued from hot vehicle in Monticello, investigation underway

MONTICELLO, Fla. (WTXL) — A criminal investigation is underway after a baby was rescued from a hot car at Jefferson County Early Headstart Daycare .

On Friday, around 11:11 a.m., the Monticello Police Department responded to the Jefferson County Early Headstart Daycare after receiving a report that a 16-month-old was left in a car.

The child was removed from the unlocked vehicle prior to police officer's arrival and was checked out by Jefferson County Fire Rescue. Police say the child had no negative physical effects from being left in the vehicle.

Once the parents arrived on the scene, the child was allowed to go with them.

MPD then contacted the Assistant State Attorney (ASA 2nd Judicial Circuit) and apprised them of the situation.

Police say active criminal investigation is ongoing at this time.
