LAKELAND, Fla. (WTXL) — Two Big Bend girls basketball teams made it to the mecca this week, Lakeland, for the State Final Four.

This is three straight trips for Aucilla Christian. They're young this year with just one senior with any experience down in Lakeland.

Florida Prep was also looking to win their first State Semifinal on Monday.

Florida Prep led 54 to 9 at halftime. Aucilla fought hard, but the Falcons were just too good as they cruised 77-17.

It was known that Aucilla would be a heavy underdog. Florida Prep came into the game 22-9, top 40 team in the state. From the opening tip they showed they were bigger, faster and stronger, and when you shoot 50 percent from the floor it was too much for this Warrior team to overcome.

"Our gameplan going into the game was hopefully we could box out and rebound. You can rebound, it doesn't matter if you're the tallest person out there or not as long as you box out and push them out of the way," said James Burkett, Aucilla Christian Girls Head Basketball Coach. "If we held them to one shot, we thought we could keep it closer."

Of course a 60 point loss is going to sting, but this team fought and showed heart. They'll head into the off-season happy with what they accomplished.
