TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The Tallahassee Police Department says a search for a wanted person near Astoria Park Elementary prompted a lock out Tuesday afternoon.

According to TPD, U.S. Marshals were helping TPD search for a wanted person. Eventually, they found the suspect at the Home Depot store on Capital Circle Northwest.

At some point, police say the suspect stole a vehicle and drove to the Astoria Park Elementary area. The suspect then ditched the car and took off on foot.

Police then set up a perimeter to find the suspect and gave the all clear around 3:40 p.m.

TPD cannot confirm whether or not the wanted person has been detained. However, police believe the community is not in danger.

Due to the heavy police activity, school dismissal at Astoria Park Elementary was held until police gave the all clear.

Less than an hour later, school officials sent an email notifying parents that the lock down was lifted and normal dismissal was underway.
