TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Thursday night, Capitol City dancers and musicians trained in the arts of Bomba music and showcased their Puerto Rican heritage to ring in Hispanic Heritage Month.

The Florida Folk Life Program featured Angel Reyes Romero and Taller Balancé, a dance ensemble that specializes in Bomba which has roots in West African and Spanish traditions.

"The residency series is a great opportunity to bring folklore traditional arts into the classroom and to broader audiences here in Tallahassee," said Amanda Griffis, the director of the Florida Folklife Program. "These are traditions that most people don't have the opportunity to interact with or engage with; and with the programming that we offer, you get hands on, one-on-one instruction with master traditional bearers within these styles."

National Hispanic Heritage Month continues until October 15.
