TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Will an endorsement from a local Congressman help bring Amazon to North Florida?
Earlier this week we told you about Congressman Neal Dunn's pitch to get the tech giant here.
Our Stephen Jiwanmall spoke with him Friday to find out why he thinks it could happen.
Amazon hasn't announced a new search, but Congressman Neal Dunn didn't waste any time trying to get the company's attention.
Last week, he sent a letter to CEO Jeff Bezos.
"I got more feedback on this than any impulsive letter that I've written," said Dunn.
Dunn bragged about the area's higher education, workforce talent and potential as it rebuilds from Hurricane Michael.
"This is a virtuous offer in many ways, and I think it would be very good for Amazon. They could be perceived as not just flying over 'Flyover America,' but actually coming in and investing," said Dunn.
The congressman isn't the only one who wants Amazon here. CareerSource Capital Region says the area is ready to welcome a company like that.
"The pipeline for personnel and people that can go into working for Amazon is here, and then, everything that's happened west of us here from the hurricane, there's opportunity galore," said Jim McShane, CEO of CareerSource Capital Region.
Amazon had planned on 25,000 full-time jobs in New York before that deal fell through.
"If we can make this happen in our area, I think we can get the talent lined up," said McShane.
At the moment, Amazon is not looking into alternate sites.
Tallahassee was one of 238 applicants when Amazon first looked for possible locations for HQ2.
The pitch offered the company 100 acres of land next to the airport, free of charge.
