CAIRO, Ga. (WTXL) — As we've seen many times following tragedy, neighbors are helping neighbors.
With organizations like the American Red Cross stepping up to do what it can, Tuesday night, a special dinner is planned for storm victims in Cairo.
You can always depend on the American Red Cross to be there when tragedies happen. The organization set up a shelter Tuesday at the Grady County Ag Center.
At the center, storm victims will receive water and other supplies they need. Most importantly the shelter will offer a hot meal tonight to those impacted by Sunday's storms.
"It's unfortunate the amount of destruction we have here in the community of Cairo. Unfortunately, a lot of destruction of homes, personal property, and personal businesses that have been affected and it is heartbreaking to see something that people have invested their whole lives in and trying to have a better place for themselves and their families," said Andy Brubaker, the executivedDirector of The American Red Cross in Southwest Georgia. "To see that it is heartbreaking."
Burbaker says they will also have counselors and medical professionals available at the shelter to help storm victims.
