HAVANA, Fla. (WTXL) — The Allison Christmas Spectacular kicked off Thursday.
It's a free event featuring thousands of lights twinkling to holiday favorite songs.
The Allison family lit the 15 trees in their yard on Sandy Creek Road in Havana. They also turned the entire street into a synchronized Christmas display.
This will be the Allison family's 13th year drawing a crowd from far and wide to their front yard. While they've never kept an official count, they expect upwards of 100,000visitors this year, especially since their drive-by format offers a perfect way to celebrate the holidays while social distancing.
Creator Daniel Allison says it all started with a Christmas wish he had that just keeps on giving.
"I dreamt it up," said Allison. "I was a kid. I pretty much had a dream of plastering, I guess is the right word, everything with lights, everything you see, every tree every bush whatever you can see. And that dream came true back in Christmas of 2008."
Daniel spends hours on his computer each year, programming the lights to dance to special tunes. They're up to eight songs this year, including old favorites like "We Wish You A Merry Christmas," and new this year, a jam from Pentatonix that Daniel says he's packed with several surprises.
Altogether, they're working with a whopping 250,000 lights. You can visit their display from 6-10 pm each night from Thanksgiving to January 1.
